ESSIC meeting reports

The ESSIC obtained consensus on a new classification of IC and proposes to replace the name interstitial cystitis (IC) by bladder pain syndrome (BPS) followed by a type indication. In a transition period the name bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) could be used parallel with BPS. Click here for more details.

2006

  • The 4th ESSIC Meeting was held in London from 8-10 June 2006.

Consensus was reached on a new name and classification of interstitial cystitis / painful bladder syndrome that is useful for both clinical and scientific application.

If you click here you will get a summary of the
ESSIC consensus in pdf-format. Please be aware of the fact that this is just a summary. It is based on extensive and open discussions in London followed by an e-mail discussion consisting of 108 e-mails.
The present summary is the proposed update per 01.11.2006, including changes that were felt to be necessary after discussions at the 2006 NIDDK International Symposium: Frontiers in Painful Bladder Syndrome and Interstitial Cystitis, October 26-27, 2006, Bethesda, USA. The update changes, however, await consensus approval by the ESSIC members.
